And the turkey’s getting fat. Or so the song goes. It’s a song that my Mom has sung every December as long as I can remember. It goes on to encourage folks to give what they can to those who are less fortunate. Funny thing is I don’t even like turkey, but as soon as I turn the calendar page over to the yuletide month, the song invariably pops into my head and I smile despite the turkey reference.
Indeed Christmas is coming, and with it comes the annual Stuff & Nonsense Holiday Open House Soiree: Thursday, December 9th from 6pm to 10pm @ the store. It’s our way of thanking our community of ‘Stuffers’ (as I affectionately refer to the number of friendly faces I’m lucky enough to see in the store throughout the year) for their continued support. We provide some drinks and some nibbles, and you all provide the cheer. Shopping is optional, but for those trying to cross a few names off their list before the holiday madness hits mayhem, we have a discount santa hat to draw surprise savings from 10% to 30% off of all soiree night purchases. So dust off those fancy clothes, or gumboots, and come clink glasses with fellow Stuffers!
As for giving back to those less fortunate, every year I usually wrap up two presents to put under the tree at the local CIBC to give to island kids who would otherwise go without a gift on Christmas morning. This year we’d like to give back to our global community as well, as we feel so blessed to be able to travel and to have befriended so many talented artisans in countries like Thailand, India, Laos, Vietnam and most recently Burma. So up until Christmas we’ll be accepting new unwrapped toys at the store for donation to children near and far. We’ll give some of the toys to our local toy lending library on the island, and the rest we’ll take with us to India on our next trip to give to children in need there. And if you’d like to purchase a toy from our store for your donation, we’ll happily give you a 30% discount.
See you at the Soiree!
